John Ben’s experience allows him to advocate and advise his clients from both sides of the desk. As in-house counsel for many years, he has an in-depth understanding of the needs and challenges faced by the client and its management team. As a litigator in private practice, his experience has taken him across the state of Texas handling commercial disputes, fiduciary disputes, and complex tort claims. This experience as both the client and counsel allow John Ben to quickly stand in the shoes of his client to forge a plan and execute an efficient, cost-effective solution for his client’s challenges.
John Ben joins the firm from in-house roles in energy, midstream, transportation, real estate, and financial services. For more than ten years, he served as in-house counsel for an energy enterprise that consisted of a publicly-traded master limited partnership, operating assets throughout Texas and the Gulf Coast and also consisted of a private company operating a large fleet of specialty tank trucks and a commodity marketing operation. Most recently, John Ben served as general counsel and senior vice-president for a holding company and its operating units in multiple industries.
For many years, John Ben has been involved in serving the community. He has been an instructor for Junior Achievement, served on the board, and served as board chair. In further serving his community, he has taught Sunday School and coached baseball for many years.
John Ben graduated from South Texas College of Law, summa cum laude, earning the Valedictorian Award. He served on the South Texas Law Review and varsity moot court, for which his team won Best Brief at the Phillip Jessup International Moot Court Competition. John Ben also graduated from Texas A&M University with an MBA and from Stephen F. Austin State University, with a BBA, cum laude.
