PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

Patrick defines success on his clients’ terms. He advocates for and counsels financial services, energy, securities, reinsurance, surety, real estate, construction, and other business clients. His approach to solving legal and business problems is proactive, practical, and value driven. These efforts take the form of zealous advocacy in business disputes, assisting clients start, buy and sell businesses and property, and acting as trusted legal advisor to clients large and small.

Community matters. Patrick works to give back. He is deeply rooted in making his adopted hometown, Boerne, an even better place to live as a volunteer fire fighter, member of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, and a member of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He actively supports the American, Texas, San Antonio, Houston, and Kendall County Bar Associations as well as a variety of other professional and charitable organizations. He also is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association’s Community Justice Program Advisory Board and the District Courts Committee. He is a long-standing member of the Texas State Bar College and routinely qualifies as a member of the Texas State Bar’s Pro Bono College.

Patrick is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts, before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas and the U.S. Supreme Court. He served as an inaugural member of the State Bar of Texas’ Leadership SBOT program and as the Houston Young Lawyers Association’s Leadership Academy chair for several years.

Patrick graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.B.A., Marketing, in 1991 and from South Texas College of Law, cum laude, in 2001. He was Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the South Texas Law Review; part of the team placing first and receiving best brief honors in the National Health Law Moot Court Competition and member of another team receiving best brief recognition in the Phillip Jessup International Moot Court Competition. Patrick earned the Judge John G. Bowes Memorial Writing Award, the Advocacy Board Judge John Brown Award for Distinguished Service and other academic scholarships.

  • Awarded judgment in favor of property owner client in trial against general contractor for breach of contract arising out of defective work.
  • Obtained judgment in favor of developer client against municipality for incorrect interpretation of ordinance and denial of applications.
  • Received jury award for client in case asserting breach of partnership agreement and fraud.
  • Attained judgment in favor of refrigerated storage client in Federal Tort Claims Act claims against the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
  • Representing company and C-Suite executives in labor and employment negotiations, severance and related matters.

Commercial Transactions

  • Represent developer group secure and develop downtown, multi-use retail facility.
  • Represent developer in purchase and negotiation of key lots in business district and assisted in unburdening purchaser of considerable property restrictions tied to properties.
  • Representation of owners of commercial property in sales throughout the region with transaction values ranging between $1-8.5 million.
  • Represent ranch owners and purchasers throughout Texas in the transfer of property and attendant interests including mineral, cell tower, billboard and other rights with transaction values ranging between $500,000 and 7.7 million.
  • Representing small to mid-sized companies as outside counsel.
