Todd Tinker

AREAS OF PRACTICE

  • Commercial Litigation
  • Employment and Labor Litigation

PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

Todd tried his first case in November, 1989, the month he was licensed to practice in Texas.  Since then, he has tried numerous cases in state and federal trial courts as well as bankruptcy adversary matters.

For 31 years Todd has represented security guard companies, the last 29 as general counsel for the largest private-owned security guard company in Texas.  Primarily handling cases outside of the workers’ compensation system, Todd has handled personal injury, Title VII, and commercial contractual disputes.  Todd also has considerable experience in the employee leasing business, dealing extensively with the EEOC on employment matters, including claims of racial and religious discrimination, as well as claims brought under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Prior to becoming general counsel, in 1990, Todd was part of a team that obtained a temporary restraining order against the City of Dallas, which sought to prevent 2 Live Crew from performing at the Longhorn Ballroom.  When the band refused to play because the promoter did not pay them, Todd survived the resulting fan riot unscathed.

Recognizing the cost and risk presented by resolving disputes in the courts, Todd prefers to work collaboratively with clients to explore all solutions short of filing suit.  However, when litigation is the only option, Todd believes in preparing every case as if it will go to trial.  Only then, Todd believes, will opposing parties understand that his clients are serious about obtaining just and fair results.

Todd is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts, as well as the Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas, and the 5th and 9th US Circuit Courts of Appeal.
